Hoof Mapping: If You Know What is Correct, You Will Be Able to Recognize What is Wrong
Presented by: Steve McConnell, Farrier
In this presentation you will learn to identify the internal anatomical structures through the utilization of external landmarks.
Steve McConnell has been a farrier for 37 years. He graduated from the Seneca College Farrier program in 1986. After graduation Steve completed a 4 year apprenticeship and successfully competed in international farrier competitions for 10 years. He is certified through the American Farriers Association (AFA) and the Farrier International Testing System (FITS) which is a therapeutic based certification program, and an APF-I with the International Association of Professional Farriers. Steve has had 2 research papers published and is currently working on a third. He works on horses of all disciplines and levels but his practice consists mainly of performance horses (dressage, hunter/jumper) with a large component being veterinary referrals for therapeutic/lameness cases. He is very active in continuing education, upgrading his skills through attending clinics, seminars and conferences and is an internationally recognized clinician.

Rider Biomechanics

Riding is a unique sport that involves two athletes and as riders our bodies can't not influence the horse! We'll take a close look at the underlying mechanics of the rider to help you unlock a new level of performance and shed light on ongoing riding challenges by becoming aware of your own body patterns.
Dr. Stephanie Crawford is a registered chiropractor and certified animal chiropractor based in Guelph, Ontario. She owns and operates On Course Chiropractic, which she established in 2016. She is also an Equine Canada licensed coach with a special interest in rider biomechanics. Her equestrian background includes over twenty years' experience riding, competing and coaching in the English disciplines, primarily dressage. She held a working student position with biomechanics pioneer Mary Wanless and is now working towards Mary's Ride With Your Mind coach certification. Dr Crawford combines her knowledge of human and equine anatomy and kinematics with her experience in equestrian sport to help horses and riders reach performance goals in strong, resilient bodies.

Hay almost always comprises the majority of equine diets in Ontario; therefore, it is only logical to know the nutritional content of it! Join independent equine nutritionist Madeline Boast in diving into everything you need to know about hay analysis. This presentation will cover the importance of hay testing, how to send your own hay sample, interpreting your results, and the most important – using those results to improve your own horse’s nutrition!
Madeline Boast is an independent equine nutritionist based in Ontario, Canada. Upon completing her bachelor’s degree in equine management and master’s degree in equine nutrition she launched Balanced Bay, a full service and independent equine nutrition consulting company. Through Balanced Bay she works with horses across North America, from competing thoroughbreds to companion ponies and everything in-between. Her primary focus is to create optimal and personalized forage-based nutrition plans as well as educate horse owners on equine nutrition.

Presented by: Lindsay Grice, Horse Judge, Riding Coach and Specialist in Equine Behaviour
In the horse world our traditions and the evidence sometimes collide. Lindsay shares how bits and training equipment work, guidelines for use, what’s permitted and off-limits in competition. “Is it me or my horse?”
“Is it me or my horse?” Horse show judge, coach and specialist in equine behavior, Lindsay Grice, helps riders solve their “horse puzzles”, sharing keys from the science and research of how horses think and learn. She holds judging certifications in multiple disciplines – western, hunter/jumper, dressage and obstacle events such as Extreme Cowboy and Working Equitation (Ont). Lindsay has taught classes and seminars in Equitation Science for provincial equine associations, therapeutic riding facilities and courses offered by the University of Guelph. She enjoys teaching clinics for horse clubs and private farms.
