Virtual Ecological Day – Monday January 10, 2022

Ecological Day is a producer lead annual event related to ecological practices on farms.  It has been running since 2003 and has been enjoying increasing popularity as each year passes.  Organizers attempt to target small livestock producers, market gardeners, larger livestock farms, and field cropping.  The purpose of Ecological Day is to provide an opportunity for ecologically-minded or organic producers to meet and be educated on the latest technology; discuss pertinent marketing issues, learn about health, nutrition and soil topics, and much more!  Participants can also interact and exchange ideas with fellow ecological farmers.

Ecological Day CEUs

1 Crop Management CEU will be available for Chris Wooding's presentation 'Growing Ecosystem Services: Cost or Benefit?'

1 Sustainability CEU will be available for the panel discussion 'Carbon Countdown'.

1 Crop Management CEU will be available for Kim Delaney's presentation 'Seed Matters, Do You Know Where Your Seed Comes From?'

2022 Keynote Speaker: Chris Wooding, Ironwood Organics

Christopher Wooding grows organic landrace cereals in eastern Ontario. Ironwood Organics now consists of 170 acres, and includes wheats (winter and spring), oats, rye and barley. He is the miller at the Old Stone Mill, a 200 year old grist mill in Delta Ontario, as well as having on-farm milling capacity. Recent areas of focus include heritage soybeans, dried beans, heritage potatoes and dent corns. They are working towards climate ready agriculture.

A primary focus is to understand and educate about the interconnectedness of the environment, food, health and diversity and sustainability and resiliency.

Ecological Day Chair 2022 - Rob Campbell

Rob spent most of his career as an actuary where he set actuarial reserves or priced just about every kind of property or casualty insurance you can think of. In 2011 he realized that economics is leading humanity to make decisions against our best interests, and switched to farming to test his ideas of sustainability in the face of climate change and energy descent. Better Together Farms is a small diversified farm in Grey County producing grass only Black Angus beef and some vegetables.
