OMAFRA in partnership with the Ontario Soil & Crop Improvement Association, University of Guelph and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada initiated an Ontario wide Topsoil Survey in 2019. 500 sites across Ontario were randomly selected for topsoil samples at an upper, mid and lower slope location to be analyzed for a range of physical, chemical and biological parameters. The goal of the project was to gather data to better understand the variability and range of regional agricultural topsoil properties such as pH, texture (% sand, silt and clay) and organic matter. A land management survey was linked to each sampling site and in 2019 there were 235 surveys completed (2,820 samples collected). This presentation will summarize the year 1 results of the survey.
